There's so much more to pumpkin than just pouring it into a pie crust or loaf pan.
Whether you go in a savory or sweet direction with this popular fall flavor it does need some herbs and spices to compliment that musty earthy taste.
Mini bites are so wonderful to have for holiday party appetizers. That way you can taste more sinful treats of the season :)
These rich airy pastries are filled with a flavorful turkey mixture and then dipped in a bright and spicy yogurt sauce.
In the spirit of my fall pumpkin beer theme, these holiday appetizers showcase Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin Ale, a brew so popular that it became the first nationally available pumpkin ale back in 1995.
Full of pumpkin, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and allspice, it's terrific blended in with the turkey and sauce.
These tender little nuggets will delight your guests and they're also a great way to use any leftover pumpkin you have after the holidays.
Ingredients
2 puff pastry sheets, thawed
1 pound ground turkey
1/3 cup onion, diced small
1/3 cup celery, sliced small
2 tablespoons fresh purple basil
1 teaspoons dried sage
½ teaspoons garam masala
½ teaspoon coriander
¼ teaspoon hot shot pepper
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ cup pumpkin beer
¼ cup bread crumbs
½ teaspoons fresh ginger
1 egg, beaten with a splash of water
Pumpkin Jalapeno Yogurt Sauce
½ cup pumpkin
1 5.3 ounces container Greek yogurt
½ jalapeno, seeded and diced small
1 tablespoon brown sugar
2 pinches salt
½ teaspoon Garam Masala
1/8 teaspoon allspice
1 tablespoon pumpkin beer
splash fresh lime juice
Directions For Pastries
Remove pastries from box and lay out on a baking sheet to thaw. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Layer a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Combine turkey and the rest of the ingredients except the egg. Spread out the pastry dough and slice into 12 equal portions. Scoop approximately 2 teaspoons of the turkey mixture onto each section. Using your finger, smooth a small amount of egg around the edges of each pastry. Fold over to form a rectangle and press together. Take a fork and push all the way around to seal dough so the filling does not leak out. Brush tops with egg. Bake 18 to 20 minutes until crust is golden brown and turkey is cooked through.
Directions For Sauce
While pastries are baking, whisk together all of the ingredients. Serve alongside pastries as a dipping sauce.
